A three-bedroom Georgian country house on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park near Criccieth. Sleeps up to 8.
Ymwlch-Fawr is a three-bedroom Georgian country house on the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Lots of character features inside. High ceilings, oak wood flooring, log fires and some wonderful period furniture. (The property once hosted a garden party attended by Prime Minister Lloyd George and his wife Margaret.) The house also provides a great base to explore this part of North Wales. Cwm Pennant and the famous Nantlle Ridge is a short 5-minute drive to the east. A similar 5-minute drive to the south will bring you to the beautiful beaches of Criccieth.
An impressive oak panelled door leads guests into an equally impressive hallway complete with it’s own log fire. The first door on the right brings us into a spacious lounge. A Laura Ashley 3 piece suit faces onto the original Georgian fireplace and the essential flat screen TV. A large bay window overlooks the lawn and the fields beyond.
The dining room next door is similarly spacious. A grandfather clock on the far wall watches over a central mahogany table surrounded by period dining chairs. A log fire smoulders warmly at one end of the room flanked by two comfortable leather armchairs. The perfect retreat for an after dinner drink perhaps.
The kitchen is smaller but very well equipped. An enamelled oil fired range oven is complimented by a more modern electric version. Other nice touches include a Belfast sink, posh toaster and food mixer and some lovely Denby crockery. Facilities such as a washing machine and dishwasher are also provided.
A wide sweeping staircase takes us up to the three bedrooms upstairs. The first double bedroom, like the lounge below, is dominated by a huge bay window overlooking fields and the Snowdonia mountains beyond.
A second even larger family bedroom has an impressive central king size bed as well as two additional single beds. The third and final double bedroom is smaller but has the advantage of an en-suite shower room.
To finish we have a very fine family bathroom. The striking free-standing roll top bath is accompanied by his and hers washbasins all with period chrome fittings.
Located on a quiet country lane and surrounded by fields of grazing cattle the house is a perfect retreat for guests wanting to explore North Wales. Cwm Pennant and the Nantlle Ridge is a short drive away as is Cwm Ystradllyn and Moel Hebog. Some brave guests might also be tempted by a walk from your front door right to the summit of Snowdon itself.
As well as the mountains of Snowdonia the cottage is also ideally suited to explore the seaside villages of the Llyn Peninsula. Criccieth, 3 miles away, is one of those hidden gems of the North Wales coastline. It has, of course, its world famous ‘Cadwaledrs’ ice cream and the usual cafés and fish and chip shops but, for a small village, it boast’s some really quite nice restaurants. The ever popular market town of Pwllheli and fashionable Abersoch are a little further along the coast. The nearest town with supermarket etc is Porthmadog, some 5 miles away.
