(Vale of Ffestiniog) - Sleeping 4, this 2 bedroom cottage in Snowdonia is situated just 5 miles from Porthmadog and is perfectly situated for the mountains or beaches of North Wales.
Ty Uchaf is a cosy, charming cottage located in the small hamlet of Rhyd, about 5 miles from Porthmadog, and 6 miles from Beddgelert, in the Snowdonia National Park. It is a semi-detached traditional stone cottage that has been sympathetically modernised over the years, and provides an ideal base for exploring both the mountain and coastal attractions of North Wales. Hill and forest walks are available from the front door of the cottage. The Ffestiniog steam railway runs only 3/4 mile from the cottage, and other narrow gauge railways, including the Welsh Highland Railway are closeby. Within easy reach of a range of good shops, pubs and restaurants in Pehrhyndeudraeth and Porthmadog.
The cottage is located in the lovely quiet hamlet of Rhyd, nestling in a small valley with fields and forest in front of the cottage, looking down towards the estuary at Porthmadog, and with the backdrop of the dramatic peaks of the Snowdonia mountains (Cnicht and the Moelwyns are immediately behind the cottage). It is in a great location - secluded and away from the main tourist hotspots of Snowdonia, but within easy reach of all the mountain and coastal attractions. The cottage is heated by night storage heaters downstairs (supplemented by a log burner in the lounge), with wall heaters in the bedrooms and bathroom. We have a no-smoking policy for this cottage.
There are two bedrooms, one double and a second bedroom with two single beds, both recently refurbished. The newly refitted bathroom has a full length bath with electric shower over the bath. The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, microwave oven, washing machine, toaster, kettle and iron/ironing board. The entrance hall/dining room has a dining table for 6 persons and a sofa bed. The cottage is well –equipped, with freeview TV, DVD player, music centre with i-Pod docking, Wi-Fi broadband and phone available for guest use.
A secluded back garden with shrubs and lawns backs onto fields with clear views of the Moelwyn mountains. The garden is especially nice in the spring, when it is a mass of colour from the azaleas and daffodils. Garden bench/seats. Barbecue. There is ample car parking in a layby in the lane, about 40 yards from the front door of the cottage.
One pet dog is allowed, by prior arrangement.
A good pub and village store is located in Garreg just 5 mins drive from the cottage. Further shops/pubs/restaurants are available in Penrhyndeudraeth (3 miles) or Porthmadog (5 miles). Walks are available from the front door of the cottage onto lovely forest and lakeside tracks, or up into the Moelwyn mountains. The main tourist centres within the Snowdonia National Park (Beddgelert, Capel Curig, Betws-y-coed) are all within half an hours drive. The various paths up Snowdon are all in easy reach, as are all the other wonderful attractions of North Wales. Whether you are into walking, climbing, water sports, castles, beaches, birdwatching or steam railways, you will be kept entertained !
There are lovely beaches near Porthmadog (Borth-Y-Gest and Morfa Bychan), Shell Island and on the Llyn Peninsula are all within easy reach of the cottage (25-45 minutes drive).
