Trenance Gardens Newquay

Introduction

Trenance Gardens in Newquay, Cornwall. Relaxing and scenic gardens in the heart of Newquay.

You can’t imagine what a difference 10 minutes can make. From the busy town and beaches of Central Newquay take the short walk down Edgcumbe Avenue into the Trenance Valley and you find the tranquil Trenance Gardens.

I have spent many hours sitting reading or relaxing in this quiet park. The gardens are split in two either side of Trenance Road. The first part, with a small woodland walk and charming stream meandering its way through park.

The main area of Trenance Gardens has several picnic areas, a boating lake with its own islands and the historical and recently refurbished Trenance Cottages.

Imagine sitting in the sun, the water from the lake lapping close to your feet, the sound of distant seagulls, a small glass of wine and you could be anywhere in the world. Only, in reality you are in Newquay’s most beautiful Trenance Gardens. I could sit in there for hours on end with a book or newspaper and whatever else is going on in the world is for another day.

After an evening meal and before the sun goes down, there is no better way to bring the day to an end than a walk through the Trenance Valley. Stop on one of the many small bridges over the stream and take in a totally different evening atmosphere to the one you can experience during the day. On a clear night the sun drops through the trees creating a plethora of shadows. Several years ago in high season local Brass bands used to entertain locals and visitors alike in the gardens, these concerts have now moved to the Killacourt Bandstand in the centre of town. A stunning location but it doesn’t have the same ambience as the delightful Trenance Gardens

For the disabled, the gardens are easily accessible and the lakeside cafe is well stocked with cakes, drinks and quality food. Trenance Gardens celebrated it’s centenary in 2006. The year before the “Friends of Trenance Cottages” group was formed in association with Restormel Borough Council with aim to save and restore Trenance Cottages. In 2009, prior to the council closing it’s doors for the introduction of a new Cornwall Council the friends were handed the keys to the properties and is currently applying for lottery funding to continue the restoration.

Trenance Gardens are part of the Trenance Leisure Park which also includes Riding stables, rowing and pedal boats for hire. It is also home to the award winning Newquay Zoo, a 25-metre swimming pool, kids pool, and fitness centre that can be found at Waterworld, skate park, mini railway, cafe, one of the best Crazy Golf courses in Cornwall set in their own beautiful gardens, pitch and putt,  and of course, the lush landscaped gardens.

Newquay can offer most visitors most things, however for pure relaxation in a friendly, picturesque setting, then Trenance Gardens is the area of the town where you can go anytime of year. The Gardens are especially beautiful in the springtime. We hope you enjoy the visit.
