The Milking Parlour
quality accommodation in tranquil location
Situated on the peace and quiet of a lovely medieval farmstead, beautifully converted 16th Century thatched barn offering quality holiday accommodation.
Set in peaceful farming countryside in deepest Devon, equidistant between Dartmoor and the North Cornish Coast, The Milking Parlour at Hole provides exclusive, quality, self-catering accommodation in a beautifully converted Grade II* Listed 16th Century thatched barn, on our medieval farmstead.
The Milking Parlour, forms part of the barn and is located next to the farmhouse and therefore is also listed as Grade II*, being of 'High Status' , and although constructed later than the house (probably 16th Century), is also built of cob (earth and straw) and shale rubble stone.
The barn's huge walls are some 2-3 feet thick and has massive beams, giving an internal feel of solidity and great age.
We have carefully selected complementary contemporary modern fittings and fixtures, with authentic original materials to produce a high quality end product, which we believe shows the barn off to its best and creates a restful environment.
The accommodation has been entirely designed with visitor comfort and convenience in mind. Though an ancient building, all modern comforts are provided and the barn is furnished in a contemporary style.
Outside, The Milking Parlour at Hole has its own private paved patio with picnic table, bench, sun-chairs and a barbeque, though guests are very welcome to explore or play badminton, read in the Summerhouse etc.
Steps lead up to the entrance/dining conservatory, which is a lovely bright daylit room, popular with those just wishing to relax or simply read a good book. The conservatory leads into the open plan fully-fitted kitchen, which also has lots of space for storing your holiday paraphernalia. The kitchen includes a large range of storage units, which are made from English Oak, with granite worktops, a butlers sink, an Electrolux double electric oven with ceramic hob, and a Bosch dishwasher and fridge. The farm's laundry room/boot room is housed in one of our ancient cruck-framed cartsheds just a short distance away, and there you will find your own washing machine and also large freezer and space for muddy boots, wet jackets etc.
Also on the ground floor are the 2 bedrooms: – one has been furnished with a 5 ft king size bed and duck down pillows and duvets, the other with twin beds, and lastly there is a luxurious shower/wet room with mozaic tiled floor and his and her limestone basins, wc, and shower.
A hand-made solid oak staircase leads upstairs to the galleried sitting room, which has a vaulted ceiling with old, exposed timbers.
The central point of the room is a wood burning stove with fully openable doors to become an 'open fire', alongside a TV with digital freeview box and dvd player (and a gigantic selection of dvds ).
Both upstairs and downstairs are heated by wet underfloor heating with individual digital room controls, and the whole building has a structured cabling system providing voice and data with wireless internet access - please see our Terms and Conditions.
All linen and towels are provided, as are an iron and ironing board, hair dryer and unlimited logs for the fire.
All heating and electricity is included in the price.
Visitors are please requested not to smoke in The Milking Parlour at Hole, and pets are unfortunately not allowed. Sorry, no fireworks due to thatched buildings and livestock.
The accommodation is not ideally suited for unsupervised children (under 13's) as the solid oak staircase has open treads(with no stair/baby gate), hard slate flagstone floors and fittings with square corners etc and there are ditches, ponds, stock fencing etc close by. Its a quiet sort of place, which many have called an ideal retreat from the kids!
