The Lion Inn Winchcombe Gloucestershire
The Lion Inn at Winchcombe in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds is a family and dog friendly pub and restaurant with rooms serving great local food wine and ales and offering comfortable beds and attractive, relaxing rooms.
The Lion Inn is ideally located in the centre of Winchcombe, a wonderfully unspoilt Cotswold town that dates back to Saxon times with antiques centres, award-winning delicatessens, boutique cake shops, acclaimed restaurants and, on the outskirts, one of the most romantic country houses in England – Sudeley Castle!
Winchcombe is located in one of the most stunning areas of the Cotswolds, where the Cotswold Hills tumble into the Severn Valley offering striking contrasts and views as far as the Black Mountains in Wales.
The Lion Inn started life as a coaching inn in the 15th Century. Over the years it has gone through many changes and played an important role in the village; providing food, drink and accommodation for people and horses.
Having fallen in love with the building, Annie Fox-Hamilton took over ownership of the Lion in late 2011 and spent 6 months on a major renovation of the building and grounds. We were determined not to lose any of the original quirky charm; we unearthed a lot more than we had anticipated such as Mickey Mouse – the vintage wall painting in Room 1 we couldn’t bear to lose.
Following the renovation of the building and grounds The Lion Inn at Winchcombe has been given a new lease of life transforming it into a place that we would like to visit – friendly; pampering; great local food; wine; ales; child and dog friendly; comfortable beds and attractive, relaxing rooms.
The Lion Inn is the sort of place you could walk into on your own or come with friends and family for coffee and cake, bar snacks, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, stay the night or the week and know that you will receive a warm welcome and be well looked after.
Dining at The Lion Inn is a relaxed affair with deliciously tempting food, an excellent wine list and friendly staff. Our chefs source local, seasonal ingredients from the best suppliers in the area and our menus are based on what is fresh & available and change daily. Our constantly changing menu can also be enjoyed al-fresco in our large, sunny well-stocked garden.
The Lion Inn has a spacious bar with a relaxed yet buzzy atmosphere. Enjoy a drink, snack or something from our restaurant menu at the bar or one of a number of tables. We offer a wide selection of ales including regular guest ales, beers and spirits and an excellent wine list.
The Lion Inn has seven double en-suite rooms including one mini-suite with king size bed and one double suite. Our rooms have their own individual character including a converted hayloft, two with their own stone stairway and one with a vintage mural of Mickey Mouse.
We’re passionate about the little things; simple and stylish décor, power showers, comfortable beds, fresh flowers, natural products and high-quality linen. Rooms are clutter-free which means we don’t have televisions (by popular request) and hope guests will join us in the bar and restaurant.
All bedrooms have Bramley toiletries for guests to use during their stay. The range contains the highest grade pure essential oils, 100% natural botanicals and rich cocoa and shea butters. There are no parabens, petrochemicals, sulphates, artificial colours or fragrances in the products, and they are available to purchase from our bar. Tea and coffee are provided as a complimentary service to the rooms, a quick buzz to reception and they will be brought to you.
Rooms are available from 3pm and need to be vacated by 11am on the day of your departure. Earlier check-ins and late check-outs may be available at an extra charge.
