The Bull and Butcher is a wonderful pub and restaurant situated in one of the loveliest spots in the Chilterns, in the village of Turville, just a couple of miles north of Henley on Thames in Oxfordshire.
Built in 1550 the Bull and Butcher is a listed grade 2 building, a quintessentially English pub, nestled in a beautiful secluded valley in the Chiltern Hills, in the quaint village of Turville in the Hambleden Valley, 6 miles from Henley on Thames.
The surrounding countryside is simply stunning. There are a myriad of footpaths and lanes around the pub - walkers and cyclists are more than welcome at The Bull and Butcher. The nearby Cobstone Windmill
overlooks the valley and is famed as the home and workshop of Dr Caractacus's Potts in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
. The village church of St. Mary the Virgin, dates back to the 10th Century and achieved its fame in the BBC series The Vicar of Dibley
. The film Good Night Mr Tom
, starring John Thaw, was also filmed in the village as are many of the Midsomer Murders
and Miss Marple
episodes. A Chilterns film mecca!!
Traditional home-cooked English pub food is served, lovingly prepared and cooked by head chef Paul and deservedly the recipent of a Michelin Bib Gourmand
. There are excellent local real ales available, including Brakspear's Ordinary and Oxford Gold Organic, plus regular guests ales from the local area.
Inside there are two main areas, The Well Bar and The Windmill Lounge, both with large open fires, original beams, and a relaxed pub atmosphere. There is a large sunny garden, and patio areas, ideal for a relaxing summer’s day. A further addition is our fantastic Function Room, ‘The Bull Room – Private Dining in the Country’
. Seating up to 24 with high barn doors leading out on to the lawn - perfect for your private celebration, corporate entertaining and business functions or event.
