Exploring the Peak District
The Snake Pass Inn is perfect for exploring the northern Peak National Park. Only seven miles from Glossop, the Inn is situated closeby to the Ladybower and Derwent Reservoirs. It is here, at the Derwent Dam that 617 Squadron, the famous 'Dambusters', rehearsed their daring mission in 1943.
To the south is Hope Valley, and Hathersage, where one of Robin Hood's 'Merry Men', Little John is reputed to be buried. Not far from Hathersage is one of Britain's most fascinating villages, Castleton. The rare mineral, Blue John, unique to Castleton, and mined here. Several caverns are open to tourists, including Peak Cavern with it's gaping entrance and Speedwell Cavern with it's boat trip. Standing proud over Castleton is Peveril Castle... Edale is also nearby, the starting point for the Pennine Way long distance footpath which eventually ends just inside Scotland... A short drive away is Chatsworth and many other great houses too! So, you see, there is plenty to do and see when visiting the Peak District!
