The College is conveniently situated on Oxfords High Street. Its central location means that many University departments and facilities including the Bodleian Library are within easy reach. The shops, restaurants, cinemas and theatres of Oxford are all close by.
Oriel welcomes residential conferences during the Easter vacation in March/April and the summer vacation in July, August and September. We also cater for non-residential conferences during term times.
Accommodation: There are normally around 180 single rooms available for conference use, 80 of which have en-suite bathroom facilities. Another 20 share a shower and toilet between two rooms and the remaining rooms all contain a wash basin and have other facilities on the same staircase. Having recently undertaken some major refurbishments, we also have twin rooms available to let.
In addition, the College has an accommodation annexe located around one mile from the main site called James Mellon Hall. This site comprises of a new purpose-built accommodation block with up to 60 en-suite bedrooms. Continental breakfasts can be served in the kitchens there; alternatively, delegates are welcome to come into College for a hot & cold buffet breakfast. Local amenities include a number of restaurants, a supermarket and a cinema.
Conference Rooms: Other rooms in college can be hired as lecture, seminar, teaching or meeting rooms. Our conference centre, the Harris Building, consists of a lecture theatre, a seminar room and facilities for drinks receptions, tea, coffee and finger buffet style meals.
The college bar in the First Quadrangle can be used by resident conference delegates, and in the summer months drinks receptions may be arranged in the College quads.
Banqueting: Modern innovative cuisine alongside the colleges good and extensive wine cellar is on offer for dinners and banquets. Meals are provided by the college chef and his staff and are served in the traditional Oxford college Hall which has a capacity of 140 people.
Our other dining room, the Champneys Room can also be used for dining for up to 50 people.
