Newquay Association Football Club
Mount Wise overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is also home to Newquay Association Football Club.
There has been a football club in Newquay back to 1890. The modern day Newquay AFC, known as the peppermints, are one of the top football clubs in Cornwall and date back to 1946 in its current form.. The current ground at Mount Wise has been their home since 1922. They were founder members of the South Western League in 1951 and remained in the league until 2007 when they joined the newly formed South West Peninsula League. Newquay have been South Western League champions seven times and won many other south western competitions.
The 2008/09 season brought Newquay AFC the runners up spot in the West division of the South West Peninsula league. At the start of 2010 Newquay sit handily placed in the top four of the West division ready to make a challenge for their first title in the recently formed league.
