Museum of East Asian Art

Museum of East Asian Art

...the only museum in the UK dedicated to the arts and cultures from East and South East Asia.

Wonder at the beauty created by East Asian craftsmen, the intricate bamboo carvings, view the largest jade collection and gain a magnificent insight into the arts and crafts of China, Japan, Korea and the rest of South East Asia.

The Museum of East Asian Art is an educational charity set up to promote a deeper understanding of East Asian cultures by encouraging children and adults to discover and learn more through listening, observing, creating and handling.

Set just a few meters from The Circus in Bath in a restored Georgian house, the MEAA holds one of the most unique collections of art and strives to provide an interesting hands-on approach to learning to keep even the youngest visitors occupied and amused.

The collection has reached almost 2000 items ranging from around 5000 BC up to the current day and was started by Brian McElney OBE after a lifetime of working in Hong Kong and becoming intrigued and enamoured by the beauty of Asian art.

The museum in its capacity as an educational charity holds many events and exhibitions, especially children’s events, to give them interest and an understanding of a different culture.

Check the website for current and upcoming exhibitions and events or to view opening times so you can factor in a visit into your Bath experience.
