In recent years, Mortons House has been declared 'Small Hotel of the Year’ and in addition received a Silver Award for 'Accessible Accommodation’ (South West Tourism). The owners are equally proud of their 'Gold Award' status from Visit Britain.
The Restaurant has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes for its fine dining. The ethos is 'to produce a top-quality menu, using predominantly local ingredients, with a few twists to tempt the palate.'
Mortons House is licensed for Civil Weddings and has been a popular venue for weddings and other special occasions for many years.
Mortons House is one of the earliest in Corfe and perhaps the finest. Dating back to circa 1590, the house was originally known as 'Dacombs', after William Dacomb. William was a wealthy gentleman owning many plots of land and the Dacomb family themselves were prominent citizens of the village of Corfe.
'Dacombs' was extended in 1666, probably with stone taken from the Castle. Inherited by John Morton in 1712, the house was then passed to the Bond family through marriage. Mortons House was once linked by underground tunnels to Corfe Castle. The imposing entrance hall has the original minster stone fireplace and leads to a magnificent oak-panelled drawing room, lined with exotic wooden friezes which were carved by Indonesian sailors.
The Elizabethan Room - A spacious studio suite with original four-poster bed, spa bath and dressing room.
Double or Twin Bedded Rooms - Each individually decorated with its own unique style and charm. Some are located in the original manor and some have Castle views. All have private bathroom, television, tea and coffee making facilities and quality courtesy products.
The Dacombe Rooms - Separate to the main hotel are four spacious rooms, individually built within the pretty walled garden. Benefiting from all the facilities of the other rooms and in addition a TV/DVD Player, they are situated in the quietest corner of the grounds and all have a shower-only "wet" room.
The Purbeck Suite** - Garden suite with attractive double bedroom, spa bath and separate lounge.
The Loft Room** - Junior suite via a private staircase, with double bedroom, en-suite bathroom and separate lounge.
** These rooms are easily adapted for family use.
The Restaurant - 2 AA Rosette Award 2011
Mortons House is proud of the commendations received for its traditional English cuisine and indeed was awarded a prestigious Second AA Rosette for the fine cuisine in November 2002. The restaurant menu is supported by an excellent wine list. Private Dining for up to 22 persons can also be made available in the beautiful Castle Room.
Mortons House Hotel has been granted a Marriage Ceremony License and has 2 rooms registered for holding the wedding ceremony. The Oak-panelled Drawing Room, a beautiful room with exotic friezes and imposing fireplace and The Castle Room, an elegantly decorated room for more intimate numbers.
From January 2003 the Dorset Registration Service made available three new ceremonies. These are, Naming Ceremonies - for babies and children, Renewal of Marriage Vows - to reaffirm your commitment, popular amongst those who marry overseas and Commitment Ceremonies - a celebration of commitment for those who cannot, or do not wish to marry.
Please note these ceremonies have no legal status.
