The Country House
Maes-y-Neuadd is a very old Welsh manor house, dating from the 14th century. It is steeped in history, and has now been converted into a country house hotel,  while retaining its old world character.

The hotel is a good base for exploring the Mountains of Snowdonia, the North Wales coast, the Lleyn Peninsula, Portmeirion, the Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway, historic castles like Harlech or Conway and lots of other fascinating places.

In addition we are recognised as one of the very best hotels in Wales, with AA red stars, rosettes for our restaurant, and many other awards.

And to convince you that you really do want to stay here, our hotel has a really relaxed "country house" atmosphere.

Situated amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain, with spectacular views across the Snowdonia National Park, Maes-y-Neuadd nestles into a wooded mountainside. The oldest part of the house was built less than a century after Edward 1st's mighty castle at nearby Harlech. Sixteenth, eighteenth and twentieth century additions to this gracious, historic Manor, blend harmoniously, the Welsh granite and slate combining strength and character with peace and charm.

The house is in the personal care of the Jackson and Payne families who have sympathetically restored their home to provide the highest standards of comfort and luxury for today's discerning traveller.

Guests from all over the world now enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere offered at Maes-y-Neuadd.

Every fascinating corner is there to be explored and enjoyed...

...the bar with its ancient inglenook and recesses full of interesting curios...
...the sunlit conservatory where you may enjoy morning coffee or afternoon tea... the terrace where, on warm summer nights, you can enjoy the magnificent spectacle of the sun setting over the Lleyn Peninsula...
...and, of course, the gracious and elegant Dining Room where delicious dishes are created by our talented chefs, using the succulent fresh produce for which Wales is renowned. The lamb, fish and the wonderful variety of Welsh Farmhouse Cheeses are unsurpassed.

Dining
Our restaurant is highly acclaimed in all the leading guides, but most important of all, our guests love the food produced by Chef Patron Peter Jackson and his team.

Fresh vegetables are gathered daily from the garden, see Garden Page for a full description, and the menu each day is focused around what is available.

The finest Welsh lamb, fish from Cardigan Bay and the Menai Straits and Welsh farm cheeses are also delivered to us as fresh as they can be.

Imagine a meal including sea trout brought in within an hour of being caught, accompanied by tiny new potatoes and mange tout gathered from the garden, followed by our own strawberries.

Our menus consist of four courses - all carefully balanced to complement each other, and which change daily. The meal ends with a "Grande Finale" consisting of no less than four parts. See our sample menu page.

We are very sympathetic to all special food requirements - nothing has defeated us yet! Just let us know before you arrive what your needs are.

We are open for breakfast, luncheon and dinner every day. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are a special delight in the summer when they can be served on the terrace with the added pleasure of the magnificent views of Mount Snowdon and the sea.

Maes-y-Neuadd is also a special place to celebrate a marriage, with a menu created just to suit you. Of course the ceremony can also take place here, to make that day absolutely perfect.

The Bedrooms

15 rooms - 15 different designs

All created to suit the differing styles of each room. The house was once a Manor House and the feeling of being in a much loved home prevails today.

We have dormer windows, high ceilinged Georgian rooms - 16th century beams and even two 14th century rooms.

All reflecting the different periods during which the house was built. Our rooms all have names that are linked to the area and the family that owned the house for over five hundred years.

Some of the rooms are large, some not so large, but all are furnished and equipped to provide luxury, comfort and warmth.

Some have distant views and some overlook our gardens. Our staff are always happy to describe individual rooms when you phone or e-mail. We also have rooms that are ideally located and grouped for families or couples travelling together.

We don't have mini bars and tea making trays, but we are always there to provide you with service from early morning to late at night.

Just come and be thoroughly spoilt!
