MAIN FEATURES

(near Bala) A Snowdonia Farmhouse Cottage, sleeping 6, stunningly situated on the slopes of Aran Benllyn above Lake Bala.

Llechwedd Fwyalchen sits quietly in the foothills of the mighty mountain, Aran Benllyn. It is a detached self-catering cottage close to Llanuwchllyn, south of Lake Bala. It is spacious, well furnished and equipped, with magnificent views of the lakes and mountains. Set high above the Afon Dyfrdwy and the bustle of life, there are mountains and lakes on the doorstep, with beaches, castles, watersports, riding and golf nearby.

Inside, the cottage has been refurbished, has full central heating and provides superbly appointed holiday accommodation. There is a boot room leading into a large dining room with a well equipped kitchen beyond and an adjoining sitting room with multi-fuel stove. Stairs lead up to three double bedrooms, one with a king sized bed and the others each with twin single beds. There is a large bathroom with walk-in shower and deep roll top bath.
Outside there is a secure garden, with a patio area to the side of the property and a lawned area behind.

The house will comfortably sleep 6 people (1 king-size & 4 singles) in 3 bedrooms with plenty of room for a cot. Whilst the house is 17th century the facilities are definitely 21st century. It is fully equipped with TV/DVD, M/wave, washing machine and dishwasher amongst other things. The house is in Snowdonia national park but is far from the frantic tourist sites that can so unfortunately destroy the character of an area. This area is very definitely a rural farming location and takes place on the gentle slopes of Aran Benllyn, one of the highest mountains in Wales. If its company you want, you may see the shepherd tending his flocks or giving his beautiful black Welsh cattle the a man of the earth can possess.

The Scenic Location
If you become intoxicated by the stunning scenery that surrounds you, you can recover yourself by taking a 25 minute drive to the fantastic beaches that line Cardigan Bay. Alternatively if you cannot bring yourself to leave the mountain for too long, why not try a five-minute drive to the 4 mile long Llyn Tegid (Lake Bala). Your musicians will be the wildlife that lives far from the maddening crowd and your canvas will be the stunning scenery that surrounds this part of Wales.

Local Attractions and Activities
Nearby Bala is the home of the largest natural lake in Wales, Llyn Tegid, where watersports of all types can be enjoyed with or without expert instruction. The National White Water, Canolfan Tryweryn offers white knuckle rafting and much more. A wealth of outdoor activities literally are on the doorstep from rock climbing, gorge walking, canyoning, pony trekking, quad biking to mountain biking in the stunning Coed Y Brenin Forest trails and more!

How to get to the Cottage
Take the road for Bala in North Wales. Go through Bala in the direction of Dolgellau (Dol-geth-lye). 6 miles from Bala on the A494 you find the small village of Llanuwchllyn (Clan-ook-clin). Notice the filling station on your right; do not turn left into the village but stay on the A494. A further 1.3 miles from the filling station, just past a lay-by and on a sweeping right bend in the road slow down! At the small chapel on your right (at Rhosdylluan) you need to turn left and across a small metal bridge on to a single track lane. After about a quarter of a mile along the lane the road forks. Take the right fork on to a track up the hill (across another small wooden bridge). At the end of the track you will find Llechwedd Fwyalchen and a magical world.

If you have a sat nav then you can enter the post code (LL23 7UG). The centre of the post code location is on the lane south east of the chapel off the main A494 road. But the last few hundred yards from the fork and up the track to the cottage (at 52.834895,-3.690956) may not be shown on your device.
The farm track that leads up to the house is quite rough and can be quite daunting if you haven't been there before. The secret of getting by is simply to take it very slowly and carefully and you will be okay. Vehicles with very low sides such as sports cars may have more difficulty then standard cars. We have no difficulty with our Volkswagen Polo and as I say the secret is to take it slow and easy. The advantage is that you have absolute peace and quiet as there are no other houses at the end of the track so there are no intrusions.

Get your provisions in Bala as there are no closer supermarkets. You can also get a bag of coal or logs in many of the shops. The bathroom is downstairs in the house so bring your dressing gown and slippers! Assume you will need toilet paper, dishwasher tabs, washing powder etc. Put your rubbish in the large wheelie bin situated just after you turn off the A494. There is a good pub in Llanuwchllyn, which serves good standard food. There is a lake and waterfall up the hill at the back of the house which is very secluded, ideal for a little skinny-dipping! Slate floors are difficult to clean - so to avoid heartbreak leave your muddy boots in the conservatory!
