Saddle Tor is one of our newest cottages at Holwell, being completed just before Christmas 2007. It has been converted from the original Threshing Barn and has a feature groundfloor bedroom built in what was the old "Round House". This is one of the largest cottages at Holwell and boasts four large bedrooms each with kingsize beds and an ensuite shower/bathroom per bedroom.
The cottage is in the upper part of the yard configuration and has parking directly outside the cottage and a garden area inside a granite wall with breathtaking views over to the famous landmark of Hay Tor.
Inside, Saddle Tor has a huge open-plan kitchen/dining/living room with a central vaulted ceiling across which spans a galleried landing connecting the two upper floor bedrooms.
Together with Chinkwell next door, these two cottages are ideal for larger gatherings as they have their own drives and are separate from the other cottages. Between them they can accommodate up to 14.
Individually Saddle Tor sleeps up to 8.
Chinkwell Tor is one of the latest and last cottages to be converted at Holwell. Completed just before Christmas 2007, Chinkwell was originally the kennels for the farm and estate. Located in the upper yard level, it is enclosed by a granite wall and has a sheltered lawned garden outside the front door. It's elevated position affords great views over the roof of Hay Tor cottage below to Ripon Tor in the distance.
A large entrance hallway - ideal for lots of muddy boots, coats and soggy dogs ! opens up into a corridor leading to two groundfloor bedrooms and family bathroom and a large open plan kitchen/living/dining room.
Upstairs there is a spacious "loft style" bedroom suite comprising ensuite bathroom and dressing area.
Together with Saddle Tor next door, these two cottages together are ideal for larger gatherings as they are separated off from the other cottages and share their own drive. Between them they can accommodate up to 14 guests.
Individually Chinkwell Tor sleeps up to 6.
The calves that were housed in the stalls in Hay Tor cottage must have had a lovely life with such beautiful views to look out to. Before the conversion started these barns were used when the farm's herd of pedigree Saddleback Pigs were farrowing down. Between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve 2004 over 60 piglets were born here at Holwell!
This cottage has a large single storey layout with huge open plan sitting room, kitchen and dining area to one end with feature log burner and exposed granite walls and coin stone detail. Here there is also access to an extensive private terrace overlooking the Holywell Field and fantastic views from every angle. Two large bedrooms and a Master Suite with ensuite shower room and family bathroom are all located at the opposite end.
Hay Tor sleeps up to 6.
Hound Tor has many features betraying it's original purpose. A small "mucking out" door from the kitchen to what would have been the "midden" and rings on the walls where the horses were tethered. The two wooden stays marking out where the stalls would have laid and the buttresses outside where once a bridge spanned from the Threshing Barn opposite to transport the hay for storage above the stables.
This cottage has a great feel to it and loads of character. Downstairs it has a cosy sitting room round a large fire and spacious dining/kitchen overlooking the yard. Upstairs there is a double/twin principal bedroom with ensuite shower room and two further "loft-style" bedrooms with family bathroom.
Outside Hound Tor has it's own private garden accessed through a gate from behind the ancient "green lane". Occupying a sheltered and elevated position in the corner of a field, the garden has truly stunning panoramic views of the Becka Valley and Hay Tor.
Sleeps up to 6.
