...two beautiful holiday apartments and a 5* stone cottage
- 5 Star
- Dog/Pet Friendly
Two completely private wings in a historic manor house or a beautiful 5* dog friendly stone cottage....easy access to the catherdral city of Exeter.
Fursdon is a traditional farming estate in the heart of the Devon countryside yet only twenty minutes from the cathedral city of Exeter. The Fursdon family has lived here for over 750 years. Within the historic manor house there are two award winning self-catering holiday apartments and recently an attractive stone cottage has been restored to provide 5-star accommodation. The Park Wing, Garden Wing and Fursdon Cottage are open throughout the year for relaxing holidays and short breaks. The house, gardens and Coach Hall tea room are open for visits on publicised dates between Easter and the end of August and groups are welcome by arrangement. David and Catriona Fursdon look forward to welcoming you to their family home.
We invite you to stay in The Park or The Garden, two completely private wings of our historic manor house or Fursdon Cottage, a refurbished former gardener's cottage, a short walk from the main house. Our holiday accommodation is set in a 750 acre traditional farming estate in some of the most glorious countryside in Devon.
- Our family home since the 13th Century
- 30 minutes from historic Exeter and the attractive market towns of Tiverton and Crediton
- Close to several National Trust properties
- Attractive villages with pubs nearby
The self catering Park and Garden Wings are on the first floor of the manor house, reached by walking through an ancient cobbled courtyard. We have taken great care to preserve the traditional feel of a country house but twenty first century comfort is important too! Fursdon Cottage is a detached stone cottage with its own garden to enjoy. It has been completely renovated and now provides contemporary yet characterful accommodation.
The elegant and spacious Park Wing
enjoys spectacular views over traditional parkland and beyond to Dartmoor as does the stylishly refurbished Fursdon Cottage
. By contrast the Garden Wing
is almost like a self-contained cottage within a lovely walled garden.
Logs from the estate are provided for open fires and the book shelves are full with a good selection of books for you to read. Comfy sofas and window seats with fabulous views complete this perfect picture of relaxation. Your peace is only disturbed by birdsong and the occasional tractor.
You are welcome to wander in the beautiful gardens and take walks across the estate. There are swings and a barbecue, ponies and sheep to see.
GARDEN WING (
The Garden Wing is full of country house charm and character and it feels like your own cottage whilst it is actually part of the manor house.
The lovely panelled sitting room opens straight into the walled garden behind the house - lovely during the summer! The features are Georgian and there is an open fire, window seats and plenty of books- great for relaxing evenings.
It's perfect for two or three people, with:-
- Master bedroom with kingsize bed, or by request, two 3 ft beds.
- Small single bedroom
- Bathroom with additional walk-in shower
- Sitting room with open fire and door into the garden
- Large kitchen dining room
- Additional child’s folding bed is available for use in the main bedroom
There are two bedrooms - one is very spacious with a king-sized bed. The window looks out onto an inner courtyard and on beyond to the garden and the Western Lawn. The second bedroom is small but pretty with a single bed and views over the cobbles to the Bell Tower. A folding bed can be provided to accommodate a child in the master bedroom. The king-sized bed can be divided into two singles if required.
The kitchen is large and looks over the attractive cobbled courtyard: there's plenty of room for leisurely meals here.
A pretty arch covered with clematis and roses leads out into the walled garden - called the Fox Garden - where you can sit and read or just look at the view from some of the seats or benches. The long border below the wall has been planted to represent Grace Fursdon an important character in the history of the family.
PARK WING (sleeps 2 - 6)
The elegant and stylish Park Wing is so called because the views from the main rooms are across the landscaped parkland. Its facilities for up to six people include:-
Master bedroom with king sized bed or, by request, two 3 ft singles.
- Ensuite bathroom to master bedroom.
- Two twin bedded rooms, one with hand basin.
- Shower and WC
- Modern fitted kitchen
- Large elegant sitting room
The sitting room, master bedroom and kitchen all face south with stunning views as far as Dartmoor. The other rooms face east and catch the morning sun across the cobbled courtyard or face onto the walled garden.
The bedrooms in the Park Wing are decorated to a high standard in soft and soothing colours. Seagrass has been used throughout creating modern but characterful flooring.
This roomy apartment is great for a small group or family but can be booked at a special rate "Just for Two".
FURSDON COTTAGE (SLEEPS 5 - 6)
We are thrilled to be including Fursdon Cottage, a gardener's cottage in the 19th
century, to our properties for holidays here at Fursdon. Over the last few months we have been enjoying the process of complete renovation - inside and out. It is now a stylish and comfortable place for couples or families and dogs are welcome too. Lovely peaceful colours have been chosen with beautiful fabrics to give a feeling of traditional quality and at the same time there is contemporary practicality. My aim has been to make the cottage somewhere I would like to go on holiday myself (and I might take the family... and the dog!) We've been offering holidays at Fursdon for more than 30 years so we're beginning to know what visitors like!
The following features make Fursdon Cottage ideal for a family holiday for 5/6, but its cosy feel makes it perfect for a romantic hideaway, too:-
- Master Bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room
- Large family bathroom with separate shower
- Twin bedroom
- Single bedroom with additional pull-out guest bed
- Open plan kitchen/ dining room/ sitting room with log burner and garden door
- Large utility and boot room with washing machine, tumble drier and fridge freezer
- Downstairs loo and cloakroom
- TV room/snug
- Dog friendly
All the main rooms face south and there are spectacular views over the top of the estate bell tower to far distant Dartmoor. Farrow and Ball paints have been used and stylish soft furnishings complete the look. It is the perfect place to curl up with a good book on a comfy sofa and designed so that whoever is cooking dinner can join in the fun with the rest of the family.
The ground floor is tiled throughout and in the sitting room there are comfortable sofas in front of the fire. There is a large wooden dining table and a door into the garden. The kitchen has a dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob and in the TV room/snug there is a broadband connection if you need to keep in touch while you are on holiday. The utility room has space to store welly boots and hang coats after walks.
The terraced back garden extends to about ¼ acre and although a steep climb it is well worth carrying a glass of something to the top to take in the sunset over the manor house.
