For experienced surfers and good swimmers, Freshie is arguably the best surfing beach in Wales, if not the UK. The Atlantic swell ensures that the surf is consistently good, regularly producing left and right hand barrels.

The water is unsuitable for bathing due to the strong rip currents which can drag you half way across the beach if you are not careful. Additionally, there are deep hollows in the sand which can mean that, one minute you are up to your waist and the next you are up to your neck, or worse!

Thrill seekers should check out “Outer reef surf school” as they operate on this beach. Click here for Outer Reef

The beach lies adjacent to the MOD live firing range which encompasses neighbouring Frainslake beach and extends out to the sea. Visitors should therefore, exercise caution, although there are many signs and flags around the range. For information during firing, please call: Castlemartin Camp Tower – 01646 662336. During daylight hours 01646 662287, and out of hours 01646 662280.

Camping in the sand dunes is strictly prohibited by the National Park Authority.
