Five star holidays in the UK on your doorstep

We all feel we deserve a break sometimes, and occasionally you can’t escape that feeling that only the best will do. With an array of five star, luxury holiday accommodation on these shores, you needn’t travel far for the very best hotels, B&Bs and cottages.

The UK is awash with five star accommodation, whether in splendid rural isolation, by the sea or somewhere else entirely.

For a long time the majority of luxury digs were the domain of human beings only, but nowadays dog-friendly five star accommodation isn’t too hard to find.

Dog friendly

Holwell Farm Cottages is arguably Dartmoor's most splendid collection of quality holiday cottages, situated on a working farm in a breathtaking location in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park, South Devon. A quintet of farmhouses and conversions - each sleeping between 6 & 8 guests - offer top class rural accommodation that is not only dog-friendly but welcomes horses too!

Darwin Forest Country Park is a five star holiday park, and also welcomes pooches. Yep, you read it right – a five star holiday park. The Hi-De-Hi style holiday camp is largely a thing of the past, and Darwin Forest provides luxury pinelodges and a wealth of first class facilities and amenities.

Self-catering cottages

Completely renovated and extended in 2010, The Farmhouse is located at Uppermoor Farm on the outskirts of Parwich, near Ashbourne in the Peak District. Its wonderfully scenic location offers great views across the rolling green hills, and this huge cottage - awarded a Visit Britain five star GOLD accreditation in February 2011 – sleeps up to 14 guests.

Newmarket Cottage is a luxury ETC 5 Star graded self catering holiday cottage in the Cotswolds, sleeping 8 plus 1. Perfect for groups, it forms part of the Bruern Holiday Cottages and spa complex near Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold in Oxfordshire. All bedrooms are en-suite with the master featuring a mahogany four-poster bed.

Just outside the historic market town of Chesterfield is Pear Tree Farm Barn, a detached luxury cottage sleeping four. The salubrious surrounds extend a 15 minute walk down the road to the magnificent Hardwick Hall.

The Lavender Patch is a delightful one bedroom B&B, offering ultimate intimacy and quality. Set on Hall Croft Farm amid an attractive and aromatic lavender field, the accommodation is a five minute walk from the village of Hilton, Derbyshire.

Recommended by the Good Hotel Guide is a B&B, oddly enough, in Edale in the heart of the Peak District. Underleigh House is a five star bed & breakfast up to its neck in awards, including ‘best breakfast’, ‘friendliest landlady’ and, simply, ‘best bed & breakfast’.  Ideally placed for discovering everything the Peak District has to offer, including Chatsworth, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and more.

Five star hotels are always desirable and Burford House Hotel is no different. This first class Cotswolds accommodation, in the picturesque town of Burford in Oxfordshire, is one of the UK’s top boutique hotels. Just eight rooms give it an intimate, personal feel to supplement the abundant luxury.
