Bay of Exmouth

Exmouth Guide

Introduction

Lying in the east of Devon amid stunning countryside and sandy beaches, Exmouth just 10 miles from the M5 is a favourite destination for family holidays....

A popular choice for family holidays, Exmouth boasts 2 miles of golden sandy beach, rock pools and excellent facilities for families. One of the few seaside resorts still to have its own train station, the vibrant Cathedral City of Exeter is just a short 25 minute train ride away, and the M5 is just 10 miles away by car making Exmouth easily accessible for all.

The 2 mile long promenade offers a variety of family attractions such as boating, swingboats, bouncy castles, crazy golf, minature and model railways plus an adventure playground. During the summer months you can enjoy sight seeing cruises and a passenger ferry crosses the Exe to Starcross and Dawlish Warren.

The "Magnolia Centre" provides an excellent pedestrianised shopping area, and there are also many little side streets offering an array of unusual shops to browse in.

To the east of the town there is the excellent all weather attraction "The World of Country Life" which offers a good variety of things to see and do - vintage cars & agricultural machinery, pirate ship adventure, pets centre and deer park, a victorian street, safari train and restaurant and gift shop.

Exmouth is also home to what has been called "the most unusual home in Britain". Now a National Trust property,  "A La Ronde" is a fairytale house which was built by sisters Jane & Mary Parminter in 1765. The name of the house would suggest that it is circular, but infact it has 20 magnificent rooms all set around a 45 foot high octagon. The sisters during their lifetime would not allow any male to enter their home or the surrounding 15 acre gardens! A true feminist retreat! Fortunately now the house is open to all to enjoy the wonderfully decorated rooms.
