Coombe Hill near Wendover
These National Trust sites offer a mix of woodland and grasslands with extensive views and great natural history interest. Coombe Hill is one of the highest points in the Chilterns and carries a monument to soldiers who fell during the Boer War. There are plenty of footpaths in the area and fabulous views out over the Aylesbury Vale and beyond towards Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.
Low scrubs is a unique woodland with a fascinating atmosphere. The beech trees here were coppiced for firewood for centuries. This practice no longer takes place and as a result the wood is very dark and mysterious, quite different to other beech forests.
