relive the age of steam - a great family day out

Chinnor and Princes Risborough Steam Railway

Chinnor and Princes Risborough Steam Railway is located in the village of Chinnor in Oxfordshire. It is approximately 30 miles North West of London and about 20 miles east of the city of Oxford. 3 miles from Junction 6 of the M40.

The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway operates part of the old Great Western Railway branch line which ran between Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire and Watlington in Oxfordshire.

The railway opens for passenger services in March until Halloween with Santa Specials operating in December. The line currently runs over a 3½ mile stretch along the foot of the Chiltern Hills running parallel to the Icknield Way, passing through attractive countryside with some outstanding views across the Vale of Whiteleaf.

Our services operate out of Chinnor station, principally at weekends, and run to Thame Junction, a round trip of nearly seven miles.

We operate a number of special events and attractions throughout the season in addition to our standard timetabled services.

We are delighted to offer cream teas on some of our afternoon services. Refreshments and snacks including freshly made sandwiches, tea and coffee are available from our station buffet. In addition we operate an on train buffet on many services.

We have a newly refurbished gift shop situated in the station building which stocks a wide range of gifts, toys including “Thomas the Tank Engine” items.

The railway is run entirely by volunteers. Funding is obtained from donations, and the money we are able to raise by running steam and diesel train services for visitors at weekends.  .
