Cae Meddyg Farm
(Llanbedr) - Cae Meddyg is a traditional stone farmhouse located high above the seaside village of Llanbedr in Snowdonia North Wales. Surrounded by a mature garden plus a further 20 acres of land the cottages offers the perfect retreat for families looking to get away from it all.
An impressive log burner warms a huge lounge with lofted ceilings. The deep luster of the oak flooring compliments the exposed and original timber frame of the farmhouse beautifully. Comfortable leather sofas and tasteful ornaments finish off the room nicely.
The kitchen diner is a much brighter space. The large double glazed windows that flank one side of the room face out onto a lovely mature garden and lawn area. Great for watching the children play whilst you prepare a meal perhaps. And the large cooking range and high spec kitchen ensures the foodies in your group are able to express themselves fully.
Also on the ground floor we have one of two double bedrooms plus a modern family bathroom with bath and shower over. There’s a second wc and washbasin upstairs. There are two more bedrooms up in the eaves of the stone farmhouse. One double room with king sized bed and one twin. All the beds are dressed with the highest grade of fine Egyptian cotton. And again, character features such as the shuttered dormer windows, exposed beams and cast iron radiators create a real homely feel.
On the outskirts of the charming little village of Llanbedr, Cae-Meddyg sits tucked up into a small hill overlooking the Cambrian plane and its beautiful coastline. The sunsets over the Llyn Peninsula are truly spectacular and the patio and BBQ area at this cottage is the perfect place to sit and enjoy them. There’s a lovely private drive leading to the cottage so no passing traffic to bother you, just the odd stubborn sheep that may need nudging from the lane. (Don’t worry they don’t bite!)
This stone farmhouse is surrounded by some lovely manicured gardens but the fields beyond offer a more exiting playground for adventurous children perhaps. Thankfully there are some muddy patches as well, so bring your wellies.
Llanbedr is about a mile down the road and has a couple of pubs, a butchers, post office and grocery store. Ten minutes away by car, the towns of Harlech and Barmouth offer a larger choice of restaurants and shops. Lot’s of adventure type activities around, including white water rafting, mountain biking, pony trekking etc. Others will enjoy the prehistoric structures, medieval castles and narrow gage railways that dot a landscape steeped in history.
A lot of guests will flock to the cottage for a traditional beach holiday of course. But I’d encourage everyone to explore the mountains behind the house. Cwm Nantcol and the Rhinog Mountains remains one of the UK’s true wildernesses. The mountains here are arguably every bit as spectacular as their more famous sister Snowdon, but benefit from being a bit more undiscovered, at the moment at least
