Bwthyn Ger Afon is a delightfully charming 18th century miner’s cottage. Set in a quiet location overlooking fields and nearby river & only a few minutes walk away from the Ffestiniog Steam Train railway station in Tanygrisiau.
Bwthyn Ger Afon, meaning Riverplace Cottage has recently undergone extensive renovation work to create spacious, 1 bed roomed holiday accommodation especially for couples looking for a romantic retreat away from it all. Many character features have been retained such as exposed beams in the lounge & kitchen area, and reproduction paneling on the open staircase. The cottage is traditional with some French influences with chic modern appeal. The large Tiger cast iron multi fuel stove is a lovely addition and will ensure those cosy evenings! The kitchen area is well equipped and modern in styling, whilst retaining a country cottage look and feel to it.
We offer a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Electricity & starter pack of fuel for stove, bed linen and towels are also included. Free Wifi/Internet Access.
The cottage is strictly no-smoking, we allow well behaved dogs (Maximum 2) and there is parking located opposite in designated parking bays.
Open plan living accommodation with well appointed lounge area with a Tiger cast iron multi fuel stove and exposed beams, dining area and well equipped kitchen area with electric oven & induction hob with extractor hood above, microwave, fridge with icebox and washer dryer. LCD flat screen TV/DVD with FreeSat & iPod docking station. There is also a good selection of DVD’s, books & games.
The dining area seats 2 comfortably, ideal for those leisurely breakfasts and late romantic suppers!

This is a fantastically spacious, light & dreamy bedroom has a mezzanine staircase and has been well planned and thought out with couples in mind. The bedroom area has a king-size bed, and matching bedroom furniture comprising of bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe. The sitting area has a decorative cast iron fireplace, Lloyd Loom style chair to relax in and faux sheepskin rug.
There is a delightful front garden which has been paved/gravelled for low maintenance with garden bench, chimanea and table. The front garden is gated and enclosed. At the rear of the property there is an enclosed yard with deep planted borders.
We are very pleased to welcome well behaved dogs (Maximum 2 dogs) to the cottage, but would ask that you DO NOT allow them on any of the furniture, upstairs or on the beds or any of the soft furnishings. Please do not leave them unattended in the cottage at any time.
As well as the multi fuel stove in the living room the cottage has electric radiators throughout. All electricity is included in the rent.

The cottage is situated in a terrace of about 12 cottages and is located in a quiet position away from the main road and passing traffic, there are parking bays opposite the cottages which are for the use of the terrace, so parking should not be a problem, but is on a first come, first served basis. The cottage exudes a friendly welcome & a cosy ambience. Situated in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning ‘Under the Steps’, a close neighbour of the larger town, better known as Blaenau Ffestiniog. An ideal location for exploring the attractions Snowdonia offers.
The village has a local pub called The King’s Head (locally known as the Tap) which is about a 20 minute walk away, and there is a local bus service which runs regularly into Blaenau Ffestiniog and can be picked up at the end of Glan yr Afon Terrace. There is also Tanygrisiau Lakeside Café a 2 minute walk away which offers a wide choice of snacks & meals during the day and a Greek Tavern by night (please check opening times to avoid disappointment as they do not open every night), they also offer a good breakfast menu which will set you up for the day.
