Bwthyn Afon is a charming 18th century miner’s holiday cottage. Set in a quiet location overlooking fields and nearby river & only a few minutes walk away from the Ffestiniog Steam Train railway station in Tanygrisiau.
Bwthyn Afon, meaning River Cottage has recently undergone extensive renovation whilst retaining original character features such as the impressive inglenook fireplace with a multi fuel stove set on a raised slate hearth, and exposed beams in the lounge area, and reproduction paneling on the open staircase. The kitchen area is well equipped and modern in styling with spotlighting, whilst retaining a country cottage look and feel to it.
The cottage stands amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoys views of countryside & hillside encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it’s located in Snowdonia.
We offer a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Electricity & starter pack of fuel for stove, bed linen and towels are also included. The cottage also has Free Wifi/Internet Access.
The cottage is strictly no-smoking, we allow well behaved dogs (Maximum 2) and there is parking located opposite in designated parking bays.
Open plan living accommodation with well appointed lounge area with Inglenook fireplace with Multi fuel stove and exposed beams, dining area and well equipped kitchen area with electric oven & hob with extractor hood above, microwave, fridge with icebox and washing dryer. LCD flat screen TV/DVD with FreeSat & iPod docking station. There is also a good selection of DVD’s, books & games.
The dining area seats 3 comfortably, ideal for those leisurely breakfasts and late suppers!
A spacious and inviting room with double bed, matching bedroom furniture comprising of bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
A lovely light & airy room which is well appointed.
Modern Shower room with quadrant shower cubicle with electric shower control, basin with mirror and shaver point, WC and wall mounted heated towel radiator.
There is a delightful front garden which has been paved/gravelled for low maintenance with well stocked border and garden bench. The front garden is gated and enclosed. There is also a secure bike store.
At the rear of the property there is an enclosed yard with small outbuilding
We are very pleased to welcome well behaved dogs (Maximum 2 dogs) to the cottage, but would ask that you DO NOT allow them on any of the furniture, upstairs or on the beds or any of the soft furnishings. Please do not leave them unattended in the cottage at any time.
We will provide a dog blanket for you to cover the sofa with … we know how dogs like to sneak on the sofa when mum and dad aren’t looking! And please respect our beautiful area and use the ‘pooh’ bags provided!! Please bring your own dog beds and towels.
As well as the multi fuel stove in the living room the cottage has Duo Heat ‘smart’ electric radiators throughout. All electricity is included in the rent.
We also provide 'consumables' ... Washing up liquid etc
The cottage is situated in a terrace of about 12 cottages and is located in a quiet position away from the main road and passing traffic, there are parking bays opposite the cottages which are for the use of the terrace, so parking should not be a problem, but is on a first come, first served basis. The cottage exudes a friendly welcome & a cosy ambience. Situated in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning ‘Under the Steps’, a close neighbour of the larger town, better known as Blaenau Ffestiniog. An ideal location for exploring the attractions Snowdonia offers.
The village has a local pub called The King’s Head (locally known as the Tap) which is about a 20 minute walk away, and there is a local bus service which runs regularly into Blaenau Ffestiniog and can be picked up at the end of Glan yr Afon Terrace. There is also Tanygrisiau Lakeside Café a 2 minute walk away which offers a wide choice of snacks & meals during the day and a Greek Tavern by night (please check opening times to avoid disappointment as they do not open every night), they also offer a good breakfast menu which will set you up for the day.
Availability and prices
The Cottage is available throughout the year with change-over day on Saturday and short breaks available outside of the main season. Arrive at any time after 4.00pm on the day of arrival. Guests are requested to vacate the premises by 11 am on the morning of their departure.
Weekly prices are from £205.00 to £510.00 depending upon dates.
Short Breaks available from £168.00 (Minimum stay of 3 nights).
