Summary:

The Yorkshire Dales located in the county of North Yorkshire in the north of England and is a designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. The Yorkshire Dales is also a National Park, which covers 682 square miles of land and receives over 9 million visitors a year!

The Yorkshire Dales landscape is very picturesque and boasts some stunning scenery with its lush green dales, lined with dry stone walls and dotted with quaint towns and villages. Many visitors are attracted to the Yorkshire Dales for its beautiful rolling countryside and amazing scenery.

The spa towns of Settle, Harrogate and Skipton bound the south side of the Yorkshire Dales. To the north lie’s Barnard Castle and Richmond and to the east the market towns of Ripon and Thirsk as well as the popular historic town of York can be found. The Lake District National Park borders the west side of the Yorkshire Dales; it is not to be missed and is in easy driving distance of the Yorkshire Dales.

The Hidden World!
The limestone hills hide a fantastic underground world of caves, gorges, potholes, waterfalls, underground rivers, vast chambers, stalagmites and stalactites, which are all waiting to be discovered. But before venturing in to this underground world make sure you have been trained correctly and have suitable equipment.

Leisure & Recreation
The Yorkshire Dales offers a wide range of outdoor pursuits including walking, fishing, potholing, caving, cycling and horse riding to name a few. The area also has much for families to see and do; there are art galleries and castles to visit and not forgetting the steam railways. There are also well known attractions such as Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls; in fact the list is endless making the Yorkshire Dales an excellent location for families, those wanting relaxing short breaks or for action and adventure!

The Pennine Way the UK’s most popular footpath crosses through the Yorkshire Dales, as well as the Dales Way Path, Wainwrights ‘Coast to Coast’ Walk and the famous ‘Settle to Carlisle Railway’.

Claim to fame!
The Yorkshire Dales is also the setting for the television soap Emmerdale and the TV series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. ‘Calendar Girls’ and ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’ were also filmed here.
