Summary:
- The Peak District was the UK's first area to be designated a National Park in April 1951. Often referred to as the 'lungs of England' its popularity continues to grow and, in terms of annual visitor days, the Peak District is one of the most visited National Parks in the world (only Mount Fuji in Japan sees more). Covering an area of more than 555 square miles, taking in the counties of (mainly) Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire the Park is within a short drive of Manchester, Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham and Stoke. Its ease of access goes some way to defining its incredible and sustained popularity. But, as we always say here at Let's Stay UK - Don't just visit - STAY!!

Chatsworth and more Peak District treasures
- Home of much filmed and loved Haddon Hall, world famous Chatsworth, (voted Britain's favourite Stately Home and setting of the recent Jane Austen inspired Pride & Prejudice film), the Peak District revels in its natural features and landscapes; gritstone edges, sweeping uplands, limestone plateaus and crystal clear waters of its modest river valleys and pleasant dales:
Dovedale - Lathkill Dale - Beresford Dale - Monsal Dale...lovely, peaceful, blissful areas of rural delight - as long as you don't time your visit for a sunny Sunday afternoon in July! You'll need more time than that to take in the full flavour of this favourite part of England!

Puddings and tarts
- Famous towns and villages include popular Bakewell (of the pudding variety) - capital of the Peak - and Eyam, scene of the devastating and infamous bubonic plague that afflicted its inhabitants in 1665. Tideswell - the Cathedral of the Peak. Elegant Ashbourne. Sublime Ashford in the Water. Bustling Buxton and its famous Opera House. The list goes on...

Recreation and Leisure
- As a place of rest, peace and not forgetting FUN, the Peak District is accessible, suited and welcoming - the area is well practised in the art of receiving visitors - so expect to have a good time!
- With good transport links from nearby Manchester, Sheffield and Derby - the Peak District is easily found within a few miles of the M1 Motorway and arriving by rail at the stations at Chesterfield, Hope Valley, Matlock and Buxton - amongst others.
