Cae-Hir

(near Bala) - A three bedroom stone farmhouse. This eighteenth century stone built farmhouse has been renovated to a very high standard and offers the perfect location for families or groups who are looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

6 miles outside Bala and after driving through a couple of farm gates and navigating round some nonchalant sheep we were greeted by the perfect image of a country cottage. An 18th Century stone built farmhouse hidden away among the hills and heather of the Snowdonia National Park. Proper Wuthering Heights type stuff.
Heathcliff wasn’t home unfortunately but he had left a nice welcome note with a bottle of wine and some local treats, which was nice of him. The kitchen-diner is small but well equipped. All the modern facilities you’d expect in a newer house are included. Dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer etc. These are complimented by some nice finishing touches. Expensive looking blinds, a Portmeirion tea set and some nice pictures on the walls. The little things that often make the difference.

Across the quarry tiled entrance hall is a spacious lounge. All the furniture is immaculate but your eye is immediately drawn to the inglenook fireplace and log burner on the far side of the room. Essential for creating that romantic atmosphere for when you know who calls by. A traditional welsh dresser and deep set windows give character and charm to the room. There’s also a convenient ground floor wc and washbasin.

Awareness for the finer details is also evident upstairs. There’s a lovely roll top bath in addition to a powerful shower in the bathroom. There are two twin bedrooms and one double bedroom, king sized bed. And again, everything is how you’d want it to be. Egyptian cotton bedding, white bedroom furniture and carefully chosen curtains create a subtle sense of style and sophistication. The uninterrupted views across the moors and mountains of Snowdonia are, of course, a luxury specific to this part of the world.


Location
Cae Hir is in the perfect location for people looking to get away from it all. The private road leading to the property is a little bumpy, (fine for our small family car but you might have to leave the Ferrari at home for this one) but ensures that your holiday is one of undisturbed tranquility. You only have to step into the front garden to be immersed in the sounds and smells of the countryside. Simply walking from your front door will lead you through moorland, mountains and valleys of undeniable beauty.

In saying all that, Bala is only 6 miles away and is a charming example of a welsh market town and a wonderful mix of traditional welsh culture and contemporary shops and cafés. The surrounding area has long established itself as a Mecca for adventure activities. Private fishing can be arranged at the cottage but there are more fishing opportunities at Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). Sailing and windsurfing are other popular pursuits there. White water rafting and kayaking can be enjoyed at the world renowned Tryweryn white water centre.

Sitting as it does on the Eastern edge of the National Park, this part of Snowdonia has the natural benefit of being easily accessible from the English road network. But seaside towns such as Aberdyfi and Barmouth are only an hour drive to the west. Similarly Snowdon is a little less than an hour to the North.

"We took our mother there for her 50th birthday as a surprise as she had always wanted to stay in a cottage. It was amazing, based in the Bala as a cute welsh village was fab and then climbing snowdon on the saturday was a challenge but well worth it.
The cottage itself is so beautifully decorated and so homely, with the log fire and roll top bath, we couldn’t have asked for more, and with its beautiful surroundings, it made her 50th birthday so special and a weekend we will never forget. Would highly recommend and would love to return in the future.

"A lovely cottage in a lovely location. So nice to have a wood burning stove, even in June.
Everyone that we came across in Bala was really friendly and we were able to book a late taxi back to the end of the track leading to the cottage after a good meal and a couple of warming drinks.
There’s no mobile signal at the cottage but a pay phone is provided. I would advise arriving in day light if possible, as there are a few gates to go through, and a right turn in a little wood that can easily be missed.
Would definitely recommed to others."
